CHAIRLADY'S MESSAGE (for the 2022 season)
Dear Members and Friends,
As we look towards the end of the year, we can look back on what was a very successful, and enjoyable season for 2022.
As we had hoped, we managed to complete a full season of events which included a full league program, completion of all our internal competitions , celebrating the Queens’s Jubilee and the Centenary of the laying of our green in 2021.
We were also able to hold our Annual Presentation Dinner for the first time in three years, which was enjoyed by all who attended. Trophies awarded included the new Novices Cup implemented this year and another new competition to mark the occasion of the Queen’s Jubilee, to which members from neighbouring clubs were invited to take part ,which was won by Collingham.
Our teams had their most successful season in several years with all achieving their best positions in both the HABA and Tadcaster Leagues. This included the first team only just missing promotion to the HABA first Division but going on to win the Challenge Cup for the first time and our division four team, mainly made up of new bowlers, gaining promotion to Division 3. Congratulations also went to those members who through their own individual success achieved automatic entry into the HABA Champion of Champions and, not forgetting our two “senior members” who took part again this year in the over ninety’s competition at Leeds.
Also, this year under Bowls Development initiative we implemented weekly coaching sessions for both new and existing members. These sessions run by our newly appointed coaches Alan Scorfield and Geoff Jones have played a big part in the overall success of individual members and our teams alike. We also hosted fun days for several visiting Guides clubs and the Rotary Club. Good feedback was received from each organisation with further bookings for 2023 already made.
Looking forward to next year we hope to continue to attract more new members to our club not only to enjoy the sport of Crown Green Bowling but to give them the opportunity to meet new friends and enjoy the hospitality that we as a Club are renowned for.
My thanks go to the Committee and all of you the members, who have worked and continue to work, support and contribute to the success of our club. I look forward to seeing you all at the AGM in January and our Cheese and Wine evening in March 2023.
Until then, on behalf of the Committee I wish you and your families a Happy Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.
Fondest regards.
Maureen
