Dear Members and Friends,
As another bowling season finishes we can look back at what the club has achieved both on and off the green.
This year has been a very enjoyable bowling season largely due to the long spell of warm dry weather which in turn has made for some 'interesting playing surfaces'.
All the teams have had another successful season holding on to their places in the various leagues and in some cases achieving their best positions for several years. A special well done goes to the Friday Vets team who have kept their place, after their first year, in the Harrogate Vets Division 1.
Well done also to those who represented the Club in the various external competitions especially to our most 'senior Members' Stan Swaine and Jim Hobson who took part in the Over 90's competition held at North Leeds Bowling Club.
For the first time in several years the Club participated in the Collingham Village Gala Day. An open day at the green included several games for adults and children with Members on hand to introduce the number of people who visited the green to the world of Crown Green Bowling. The day was a great success enjoyed by all who visited the green especially the children. My thanks goes to all the Members who participated both before and on the day. With your support we hope to repeat this again next year.
Following the completion of another year of Club Competitions we held our Annual Presentation Dinner at the Bridge Inn. It was good to see so many Members, family and friends enjoying a wonderful evening. I thank everyone whose generosity in donating raffle prizes helped raise the fantastic sum of £340. The highlight of the evening was the trophy presentation which this year saw new names on some of the trophies.
In the last couple of years a lot of work has been done to improve the green and the infrastructure. This year saw the completion of the new pathways on the South and West sides of the green. This has now resulted in a more pleasant environment and safer mobility for everyone. Our renowned hospitality is well recognised and requests from the various Associations to host cup matches continues to grow. Many thanks to all those who help make this possible.
Finally with your continued support, generosity and commitment your Committee will continue to work hard on your behalf to make Collingham Bowling Club a welcoming and successful club both on and of the green.
I look forward to seeing you all at our AGM in January and at our Cheese and Wine evening in March.
I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.
